Votes for Women! The Fight for Female Suffrage in Warwickshire and Coventry
Sunday 11 October
Unitarian Chapel
12noon
Women fought long and hard to vote in general elections in Britain, finally winning this right on the same terms as men in 1928.
The story of the women’s suffrage movement is most popularly viewed through the lens of Mrs Pankhurst’s rebellious suffragettes and their activism in London and other major metropolitan centres. Yet, women and men in suburban towns and villages across the country vigorously campaigned for ‘Votes for Women’, in ordinary and extraordinary ways that are often lost.
Join historian Tara Morton as she brings to life women’s struggle for the vote in Warwickshire and Coventry, through a selection of diverse and inspirational local stories: those who campaigned, their sacrifices and their legacies.
