Edwin F Reynolds – A Warwickshire Architect

Richard Phillips Memorial Lecture

As a student in the 1980s, Renaissance historian and writer Stella Fletcher lodged with Richard and Veronica Phillips at Northgate in Warwick, a house acquired by Richard’s grandfather, architect Edwin F Reynolds (1875-1949).

Stella focuses on Reynolds’ architectural legacy in Warwickshire. Before the First World War, Reynolds designed houses – inspired by those he studied throughout the Midlands – and churches, influenced by his travels abroad.  In the leaner times of the inter-war years, he designed war memorials and public houses and worked on historic buildings, including Packwood House and various Shakespeare properties.

Warwick Words’ co-founder Richard Phillips sought to promote an appreciation of his grandfather’s work, and so both we and Stella are delighted to present this event.
